Excellent spot to park for a quick day hike to access the Appalachian Trail for a scenic view of Blood Mountain. This trailhead is less than 1 mile from Mountain Crossings Outfitters which is a good place to stock up before your hike. When you get on the trailhead, you will go .7 miles before reaching the Appalachian Trail. There are no trash receptacles or bathrooms here. Please pack out all your waste and practice Leave No Trace Principles.
A beautiful hiking area. It's a steep climb up to the A.T. But hey, these are the MOUNTAINS !
The parking is shaded and well-kept. Unfortunately, the parking is somewhat limited. The Byron Reece trailhead intersects the Appalachian Trail and is an access trail to the Blood Mountain peak.
Get here early on weekends.
